Pros

Met so many wonderful and talented people who will be friends for life. The company makes reliable, high-quality products. I was proud of what we delivered to customers. I enjoyed my work and team. Beautiful offices and buildings.

Cons

The market is moving to other technologies, and tariffs are killing the business. Rather than admit the reality of the situation and give people the dignity of a layoff and severance package, they are hunting employees to fire using ridiculous reasons. This is not walking the talk of their mission statement, which includes "promoting the well-being of their employees." It is a Toxic workplace with a capital "T". There is a systematic devaluing of the talent. Six-month and annual reviews are brutal and subjective, and designed to hold people down. There are so many egos and narcissists in charge. The politics are next level, and I have lost all respect for an Ivy League education.

Pros

ESOP, but that isn't as good since a rash of bad management decisions.

Cons

I see a real disconnect at Hypertherm Associates. Leadership talks about being employee-owned and encourages us to “think like owners,” but the reality doesn’t match the message. Middle management feels bloated, with too many directors who can’t direct. Meanwhile, C-Suite decisions have led to shrinking market share, declining employee morale, and a growing disconnect with the real world. You can’t say employees are the most valuable part of the company and then treat them otherwise.
