Lack of Shared Vision

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Some good clients, some good colleagues

Cons

Local and firm leadership lacks a shared articulate vision Firmwide executive leadership often makes decisions based on fear or what is easy vs. what might be more difficult but better in the long run Local studio leadership lacks charisma and direction and struggles to build trust with younger staff. Local studio leadership doesn't like to have hard conversations Local studio leadership always chasing after the next shiny object but unable to get any real momentum behind initiatives to complete them Lack of transparency on many levels. Little to no investment in meaningful, effective training and mentoring.

Great Growth Opportunity

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Lots of opportunity for those with an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit.

Cons

The design and architecture industry as a whole is subject to market volatility, particularly post COVID. While IA's leadership, with almost a 40 yr legacy of weathering these market shifts, is well versed in navigating these market fluctuations, for someone entering this profession it's important to consider.

great co workers with a side of management bullies

Pros

- Some of the nicest and most talented designers I've ever met - Some interesting projects for well known companies - Fun social events - Some managers actually care about their team. This was obvious when I was on different teams at once - I heard other IA offices are less toxic than Boston. So maybe go there?

Cons

- Treat employees like a number with never ending projects and little time to breathe before the next deadline - Eat at your desk culture - Unlimited vacation is not so. Better off getting a standard 2-3 weeks in writing - Praised for your hard work until it is time for a raise or promotion. Then you are called ungrateful for even daring to ask - Favoritism - One of the directors constantly says incredibly inappropriate things about themselves, their relationships, and others in the office. Everyone puts up with how uncomfortable they feel because that person is upper management - Forced people back to the office peak quarantine starting July 2020 with threat of them losing their jobs. Fired those where uncomfortable doing so. Justification was so that they could get clients to start up office projects again. Almost 50% of the remaining staff left within a year - Terrible management bullies. a few coworkers told me in a matter of fact way that they had been bullied and led to tears by how some of the directors and principals spoke to them - Feel like you're being watched - I know people who have actively stopped their friends from accepting job offers for this office due to high turnover - Their ESOP program is a sham
