Pros

IBM is a recognized name in the IT industry

Cons

IBM preaches work from home and work life balance, but they don't practice what they preach. Management have a much easier time moving to other positions within IBM, than non-management staff. Very political place to work...IBM has been in a constant state of change over the last four plus years and very little of it has benefited the employee, from no longer offering a pension to revoking work from home privileges to all employees within the our division to not granting pay increases for even some of their top performers for two years running now. Overall a huge surprise to someone who grew up in the Big Blue family.

Pros

It's a job. If you don't have expectations beyond that, and are flexible to know that you might be out tomorrow.

Cons

Lipservice. Don't believe it, especially from senior management who think they're doing the right thing, but all they're doing is propping themselves up so they feel good as they look to retire.

Pros

diverse company. lots of product lines. global company. if one makes the effort there can be a lot of learning.

Cons

you better manage your own career. management does not care much about you. they just happened to do a good technical job and then got promoted. you are on your own. the sooner you realize the better it is.
