Pros

Obviously IBM provides the stability that comes with such a large organization, but also the subtleties such as working with cutting edge research and development. Also, IBM strives to improve work/life balance, but it can often depend on the individual or management situation.

Cons

Like any behemoth, IBM has its bureaucracy. It does seem to be a cesspool like breeding ground for middle management. There are times where you are treated like a child and not the highly educated professional that you are.

Pros

None. Unless you like working for a huge company.

Cons

IBM has no clue about developing software... it just assimilates smaller companies, and tries to shoehorn them into IBM's way of doing things, which results in low-quality products. It also treats its engineering staff like interchangable cogs, laying off highly paid, experienced engineers for inexpensive college hires, assuming they can do the same job

Pros

It's a large company so you can change jobs without missing a paycheck or losing your seniority. We produce innovative technology that is exciting to work on and gets used around the world. And there are a number of really outstanding people to work with. Most parts of IBM area also very supportive of having a life outside of work, and are friendly to those of us with families.

Cons

Red Tape. IBM is slow to change directions and slow to take up new initiatives. It also gets political because of it's size.
