Pros

A large company does provide a level of stability.

Cons

IBM grow by identifying new innovations and then buying the smaller companies that made them. They're so large that they can continue to do this. The biggest problem is that you end up with a few hundred emails every day, most of which are people NOT adding any useful information to a topic, but saying that they agree totally with the email, and how fantastic it is! This isn't the way to run projects; most IT firms I'd worked for previously (including Sun Microsystems) would only want you to "reply to all" in the event that you had some technical information that was relevant to the email, and NOT because you were trying to have your name made known to everybody.

Pros

You will work with smart, nice, family-oriented people. Managers are understanding and supportive.

Cons

Almost everybody I work with is remote. There is no real reason to show up at the office most days, which is great if you enjoy working remotely, but not so great if if you enjoy collaborating and working with people in person. Also, Most of the teams I work with are short-staffed, which causes stress and lowers the quality of IBM products. IBM isn't necessarily replacing the people that leave the company or retire.
