Lots of opportunity for growth - Very diverse organization Great flexibility for work/life balance Key is getting a good manager - Having a poor manager can make your life hell Very intelligent people - Industry leaders in many key areas

Cons

Too big - Difficult to get things done. Never enough funding to do things right. Remote workforce is challenging - you rarely get to meet the folks you work with Many American jobs moving overseas - Discouraging to see very talented American colleagues losing their jobs

Pros

Flexibility and work/life balance are the top things that keep me here. I have been with the company 20+ years and have built up 4+ weeks vacation, which is also nice. I took advantages of educational programs (offered in the past) and IBM paid for and helped me earn a degree. The old IBM was very good to work for, the new IBM will not give you one morsel more than they think they need to.

Cons

The downsides are the insiduous, and it seems that the norm is take aways and doubletalk. Basically promotions and meaningful raises, at least at the worker bee level, are as rare and far between. They always have a "believeable" reason why raises, bonuses and premiums are so low, yet executives continue to make sure things are structured in a way that does not effect them.

Pros

You get some valuable experience in the area you work. You are a valued commodity for the first year or so. The IBM name is still held in high regard in the business world. So it is a good stepping stone.

Cons

Career advancement is very limited. There are too many people not moving which stagnates growth. There is no true work and life balance on most IBM accounts. As a consultant you are asked to travel a lot. Overtime is not an option, it is a requirement.
