Pros

Paid time off - vacation, holidays, personal Name recognition - (You'll never get fired for buying an IBM solution) Good to Excellent Software Products Benefits Package (Health Insurance) 401K Matching, Choices Security (depending on the job, been a lot of resource actions lately) Real commitment to embracing diversity in the workplace

Cons

Management no longer smart, instead MANY are focused on moving to next job. 2 years and gone. No one cares about you, BUT you..(which is fine, just don't tell me you do) Name recognition (You MIGHT get fired for having IBM implement the solution you bought) A home grown system called CAT (Customer Activity Tool) to track WHERE, WHAT, WHY, WHO,ETC ETC ETC so that management can decide if you are working hard enough. In reality, most of the information is completely made up, just to keep the FL manager off your back. It's an insult to professional sales people..big brother has emerged, and he's a cat. Getting cheaper by the minute..reducing reasonable expense reimbursement, soon you'll need to install a pay phone in your car ! Forget about travel. Pay - imagine getting a quota increase ONE WEEK before the end of the quarter and going from 200+% of quota to 89.3% with no opportunity to challenge. What happened to Marketing??? Business Partners do more than IBM SW Group. Some customers think we are out of the Notes business. When was the last time you saw an ad from IBM that would cause a customer to really consider a purchase? ie, "I'm an IBMer"? SO WHAT?? (Yeah, I get IT, but do the customers you are targeting ..??)

Pros

Working from home. The System x Technical sales group is by far the best technical sales team out there. Sadly, I don't think that's going to be true much longer. I have heard that IBM SE's aren't that great, but I think that's true for the other brands, not x86. The x86 SE's at IBM are top-notch.

Cons

Just about everything at this point. IBM was getting to be a terrible place to work about 3 years ago. Now it's unbearable. Almost everyone I know wants to leave.

Pros

Still some good people left, and good technology. I worked for IBM for many years, and they gave me a lot of good opportunities. The technical vitality is/was unmatched - there are some really amazing tools and applications developed by people pretty much in their spare time which could easily spawn off a startup. Yet the employees just do it for free. And management hasn't figured out how to put a dollar value on that.

Cons

too much management, too few people left who actually do stuff. Morale is very low after many rounds of layoffs, and incompetent management. I in the past few years, things declined rapidly. Our group was clearly not valued by management, even though the technical field, our partners and customers absolutely loved us. So we suffered the death of a thousand cuts till I finally couldn't take it and left. I realized you don't have to work with depressed, demoralized people.
