      If you have one of the few good 1st lines an a decent 2nd line, you can be happy. But if your experience is like mine, 32 years, 23 managers, 2 great ones.

      Pros

      IBM has vast number of areas that one can work and develop skills. It is somewhat strong in the mist of the economic turmoil. It has a recognizable and good reputation amongst society as a whole.

      Cons

      IBM tends to augment staff excessively and just place employees in projects without providing a defined role. You will end up doing random meaningless tasks, in which will amount to nothing and will barely assist you in growth. It really hurts you if you decide to leave apply for another position; you have nothing to really add. In addition, you will find youself in undefined roles, feeling like a lost fish in a pond.

      Pros

      Telecommuting was very much supported but this support is being withdrawn, pushing employees to resume commuting to physical offices.

      Cons

      Operates on a "need to know" basis. May work for the CIA but it doesn't work in an ever-changing business environment. When the company was purchased by IBM, the change was like being crushed by an army tank. The bureaucracy has reached unbelievable levels. 60 hour work weeks have become the norm. Meeting are being scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays. Engineers work all night long; submitting code at 3am is considered normal.
