Pros

- In the past there has been a liberal work from home policy. I'm not sure how much longer that will last. - The company 401k matching contribution is good and is fully vested from the start.

Cons

- Multiple (one or more) layoffs per year every year I was at the company (almost 10 years). - Terrible or none existent bonuses. - Management mostly concerned with how to preserve and progress their careers and has little interest in progressing staff careers. - Software engineering organization driven by rigid sales motivated deadlines with little consideration for sound software development practices. This creates substandard software services that are unmaintainable. But Sales doesn't care and engineering management team is too afraid to push back. - Bluemix IS an awful mess and any product or service that has to integrate with it WILL be made worse by having to integrate and adhere to the terrible bureaucracy that exists within it.

Pros

Large company who is trying to provide services it hadn't before and strives to innovate.

Cons

In my experience IBM turned out to be worse than all of the worst things you've ever read about the company, and that is pretty bad considering the volume of terrible things that are written. The work they acquired from PepsiCo was managed incredibly sloppy, they did not seem to care about their people at all and over time proved to be bold faced liars. The executive team and company had no interest in trying to learn the work before making assurances they could not, and did not deliver. I would be shocked if Pepsi continued to do business with them and renewed the contract here in a couple of years. Overall my experience after 3 years was that the company was sloppy, careless, and remarkably arrogant.

Pros

Fresh college grads get much needed experience and a foot in the door, a lot of resources available to you to grow as a professional, very laid-back and relaxed atmosphere, great work/life balance

Cons

Salary and benefits are not even competitive for the area, career growth and prospects are virtually non-existent or entirely too long, low morale among employees, location itself is a little too remote, policies in place without any justification to their existence, project deployment is slow and the work is often unsatisfying
