      Flexible work hours. Management heavy. Inefficient.

      Pros

      Great place to work as a researcher. Flexible work hours. Your point of view will always be heard.

      Cons

      Too many processes and too many managers and VPs in the development divisions (not research). Hard to make the impact that you are expected to, as part of your job. Lack of sound technical leadership. Too many silos.

      Pros

      Working at any time any place. Easy to work from home. Smart people.

      Cons

      The old fleet is now sinking, and CEO cannot help to increase the value of the company. Too late to follow up the competitors for intelligent services (that Watson can do). New employees are smart but managers or seniors are very lazy to catch new technologies;they block innovative projects and ideas since they do not understand. Benefits are getting much worse year-by-year.

      Pros

      IBM is a very empowering company even down to the Sales rep level. They allow you a lot of freedom and opportunity for career advancement and training for a big company. There are an incredible amount of very smart collaborative professionals.

      Cons

      IBM is a political company that is very complicated internally and is overly thick in management layers. I have been at the company for several years and many inept employees seem to avoid layoffs and continue to drag the quality of the company down.
