Pros

Very smart people, with deep personal and professional commitment, who remain blissfully unaware that they will have no future.

Cons

One of the most depressing, alarmingly arrogant and confused IT companies in the world. Acting like wolves, hunting in small packs, they eventually run out of food and are then forced to eat their own kind. Greed remains the key motivation for leadership, who will seemingly stop at nothing to best a colleague, weaken a partner or flip a customer. Reckless outsourcing of American jobs for low paid, often unqualified personnel in so called “growth markets”. Stay away from this work environment.

Pros

Pockets of highly intelligent people who have spent years mastering their field are an excellent resource. Many IBMers willing to be mentors and help you. Team work is strong and technical resources are great. Some of the kindest people I have ever worked with. Work from home. Flexibility is probably unparallelled.

Cons

Acquisition mash-up. Execs are put in charge who know little about the technology or the new buyer. Knowledge base is dwindling with turnover which is a constant, and customers are not pleased. With the knowledge base goes the innovation. Morale is in the can and no strategy to retain top talent. Good reps are looking elsewhere. No salary increase, even if you are a top performer. Opportunity to advance is slow and painful. Sales tools are process-heavy, out of date, and not integrated. Spend more time reporting than selling. You are a serial number that delivers a quota. Pay is not industry standard.

$20 earnings per share is the only thing that matters...

Pros

The people who do actual work are still the best thing about IBM. Too bad management thinks of people as "resources".

Cons

Lack of communication from mgmt to employees. The relentless cycles of layoffs while chasing the $20 earnings per share.
