      The "Roadmap" to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions

      Pros

      Lots of smart people. A pretty good reputation across many industries and job roles.

      Cons

      The 2015 Roadmap as published to Wall Street is driving stupid decision, after stupid decision, after stupid decision. The top doesn't seem to notice or care that things are breaking everyday, with more and more consequences for those who remain. It's like plugging holes in the dike when the rain is pouring down and every minute there is a new leak. Eventually the dike breaks.

      IBM is taking cost cutting to an extreme

      Pros

      Lots of smart people. Great technologies. Plenty of opportunities to do a lot of different things in your career (though you need to be very motivated to do this).

      Cons

      From the inside, it feels like the company is going out of business. Cost cutting is being taken to an extreme, from everything as simple as office supplies to something more complex like commissions. Every team meeting was about finding new opportunities and closing business. "Everybody sells" is the corporate mantra. There's a stated goal to get EPS to $20 by 2015, doing so is going to hurt IBM (there are plenty of articles about this, just Google for it). This is not your father's IBM, the company has changed significantly over the past several years.
