Pros
- great work-life balance - freedom to do any relevant research - great colleagues (well, most of them) - lots of resources
Cons
- inefficiency. Too many meetings that don't lead to anything. - afraid of moving forward with new ideas. - snakes are getting all the credit and the management loves those yes men. For example, there are people who are great at organizing meetings (one of my projects have 3h of regular meeting on a day and 5h for the week) and reporting other people's work, but don't do anything themselves. At meetings, those people are the loudest voices and the most frequent interrupters. Sometimes they interrupt others just so they can repeat what their colleagues say, showing that they are actively participating. In fact they are contributing nothing more than annoying all the hard workers and wasting everyone's time. Instead of putting a check on those people, the management praise them for their contributions and leadership. When receiving complains about those people, the management berate the whistleblower for being difficult and suspicious. This is very unfair and demoralizing. Some managers need to work on their management skills and ability to read people.
