Pros

Various opportunities to work in different departments Able to transfer between departments with not too much difficulty Growth opportunities if you know the right people

Cons

There is no work-life balance. Working during vacation time is also expected, if required. Salaries are lower than average in some cases even though performance is above average.

Pros

IBM has incredibly talented people in just about every area you can imagine. With networking and career management, you can construct a very interesting and fulfilling career path. IBM is the type of company where you have to make your own career and define your job role. Many people who do not enjoy working for IBM are waiting for IBM to take the lead in managing their career. That will not happen and you risk being treated as an expendable resource. If you take responsibility for defining your role, there are tremendous opportunities.

Cons

Like any large company, there is bureaucracy. In troubled times, accountants have a tendency to take over and some questionable decisions are made. This typically passes and a more constructive approach to operating a business returns.

Pros

1. Onboarding process was GREAT for a new hire, I was very well prepared for my first day at the client site. 2. IBM intranet was among the finest I've ever seen. Knowledge about other IBM'ers, knowledge about best practices for my industry specialization, invitations to learning and conference calls. Very good leverage of internal knowledge. 3. Very competitive salaries and benefits. For example, on top a of good salary, IBM paid me a $250 benefit just to go to the gym. I consider myself lucky to have worked for a company with such good benefits.

Cons

1. Getting laid off was no fun, but this economy is challenging for everyone. Overall though, the lay off process was still generous in terms of the package I got. 2. Mentorship: Sometimes I felt that mentorship was more rhetorical, rather than an actual value put into action.
