The level of competence across all employee levels is very high, at least at ibm.com. Great workplace environment in my division Forward-thinking technology-wise, fully embracing social media Good work/life balance Good opportunities for advancement
Cons
Lots of politics Too many silos. Company is so big, there may be thousands of people doing similar work as you, but if you're not in your department, you may never hear about them. IBM is a global company; US employees are the most expensive, so many jobs are being outsourced, and management is under terrific pressure to downsize all the time Too many contractors, not enough full-timers. IBM gives a false impression of the number of employees there because probably 40-60% are contractors.
