Pros

Core IBM is a great company. As a whole, IBMers are probably the nicest group of people I have ever worked with. Everyone in Core IBM has a lot of integrity and excellent work ethic. Health care benefits are very good. Baton Rouge IBM is a great place to start, if you're fresh out of college. Major resume boost, and you really do learn a lot on projects.

Cons

The Baton Rouge CIC is quite possibly the worst part of IBM. Most managers are unable or unwillingly to do their jobs. The pay is shockingly low, and "promotions" are insultingly small. I received a "promotion" and it was only a $3000/yr increase... I spend a lot of weekends working, and I usually don't get home until 9pm. I calculated my hourly rate: it's $14/hr. Before taxes. Baton Rouge CIC is a great place to start but not a place to stay. Get in, get your experience, get out.

Pros

Great place to learn. Great work-life balance. Nothing is going to be handed to you, but if you show interest in different areas, lots of opportunities will open up for you. Senior team members take an active interest in you and help you when you're struggling.

Cons

Too much legacy infrastructure for build, SCM, automated test, and programming frameworks. Starting pay is good, raises and bonuses are non-existent due to the company financially struggling. Don't accept a low-salary with promises of raises if you do well. Constant layoffs make you fearful of signing 1-year leases out of fear you might be gone in the next wave of layoffs.
