Pros

Excellent compensation. Very predictable environment. Very standardized ways of doing things. Good company to go on cruise control while dealing with life. If you do not want a challenging job, this is a good place. I find it very easy to get my assignments done, but very difficult to get new opportunities that have not been fully planned out by management. On the upside, the company is very predictable. No wildly annoying personalities. They won't last. A fair number of very serious, do it by the numbers people. IBM invented the box, so there is no sense thinking outside of it.

Cons

Very little room for creativity. Every idea has to go through 10-15 meetings and 20+ people for approval. Very difficult to stay passionate about a job/idea when there are so many 'processes' to go through. It probably makes for more stable products, but completely kills innovation.

Pros

Good benefits, large, well known corporation, top of the line opportunites to work with the newest technology, everything seems to change on a daily basis, you also have the option of working from home, very flexible as long as you get your stuff down. Great match rate on the 401(k) (only after your there for the 1st year)

Cons

very bureaucratic, very secretive about recent layoffs, can feel diconnected due to working with people everywhere, awkard about the outsourcing that generally happens, the office atmosphere can sometimes feel like your stuck in a scene from office space, no tuition reimbursement until after 5 years with company

Pros

If you enjoy working within the realm of complete chaos, this job's for you. If you look forward to working 60+ hours a week, with little to NO guarantee that you'll reap ANY reward, this job's for you. The single, shining positive is the wonderful people that have managed to survive the wrath of Sammie.

Cons

Complete lack of respect for the individual You're treated as a component rather than a living, human being. You simply can NOT trust anyone at the executive level
