Pros

In the software groups, IBM provides seemingly endless technical challenges and opportunity for professional growth. IBM also offers the opportunity for changing roles. I, for example, have had the opportunity to grow through a variety of software development, technical sales, and corporate acquisition roles -- all without leaving for another company.

Cons

IBM has had its challenges adapting to a cloud dominated world. Change is a constant, and anyone uncomfortable with change would find this a tough place to work.

Pros

The people we work with are fantastic, benefits are some what competitive, interesting work, big name, as everyone knows "IBM".

Cons

Performance evaluations with forced bell curve, Middle management seems out of control and not aligned with what the CEO directives, periods of wild hiring/spending followed by layoffs and total budget shutdown

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. Given IBM's transformation and what we've heard from you and many other IBMers, we’ve kicked off a brand new approach to performance management this year. Hopefully you've heard of it by now - it's called Checkpoint, and it was co-created by IBMers for IBMers to reflect the way all of us work. What's the focus? Continuous feedback; a nimble, real-time approach to setting goals; and year-end evaluation on not just what we accomplished but how we accomplished it. And, perhaps best of all, we're no longer defined by a single rating.
