Pros

Pay is good and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in areas of interest … buuuut

Cons

ICF is obsessed with billable hours and improving “utilization”, eliminating the human element of being an employee. You are very much expected to be a money making machine with little to no overhead. Also, ICF’s business model HEAVILY relies on copying and pasting old work, and when there isn’t anything to copy (which happens a lot) hours aren’t adjusted, so you end up working a lot of unpaid overtime to make up the difference and prevent charging to overhead. Therefore, a healthy work life balance is non existent. As a technical advisor, I highly advise that you don’t work here.

Pros

- Relatively good pay - Finally allowed remote working (pre COVID)

Cons

- Lack of Diversity (not only race wise but also this company does not embrace diversity of thought) -Workplace is full of micro-aggression (especially towards women of color) - Only values people that they worked with formerly (mostly from Sapient) or white males. -Management did not hold themselves to the same standards that they set for their direct reports. -Did not enforce (or have) workplace violence standards (MASSIVE FAIL) - Did not provide bonuses to the worker bees. They had massive layoffs but made sure leadership got paid $$$ -Not innovative

Pros

I did learn a lot that I think helped me more rounded in my career. Excellent internship. They are doing some really cutting edge thing and a lot of cool work if you are put on good clients.

Cons

The job itself was actually okay for my first six month before COVID -19, but once the pandemic hit all hell broke loose and we began working 60 hour weeks with no thank you. In my experience our partner did not stick up for us when the client was asking for incredulous demands that was out of scope when we were already over hours. Really did not feel protected or supported by upper leadership. Twice senior members of our team left and we were told to pick up the lack with no compensation or recognition. Your happiness and success is 100% tied to your client. If you're on a less exciting client you will not be looked at by leadership or for growth opportunities. Even if the client is happy and you're doing well, if it's not one of the 'favorites' you're growth is screwed. I had two instances where I felt bullied for the first time in my career by someone in a higher level on one of my accounts. When I tried to speak with my manager or respectfully work through the situation I was told I was being anxious and it was all in my head... Very cliquey environment. I don't feel like I ever actually made work friends there. There were some really nice people, but there was also A LOT of gossip and competition. Basically if you started as an intern you're golden and if you were hired on later in your career you'll be considered an outside. Personally speaking I really struggled with this. I think if you're put on the right accounts you could totally have a different experience, but mine personally was very negative and I know I'm not alone in how I felt.
