Pros

Diversity of work opportunities. Passionate, driven colleagues. Some of the projects are mission-driven.

Cons

Toxic culture in many teams. You are pitted against your colleagues for project opportunities and promotions, which hinders sincere collaboration. Work/life balance is abysmal. Because this was my first job out of school, I had no idea how awful it was working here. I have since had 2 other employers and the opportunity to work with managers who are actually decent people and view their employees as humans - not just cogs to drive as much profit as possible. I worked under a few dozen different managers (either reporting to or working under for particular projects) during my tenure at ICF and I wouldn’t want to return to work with any of them. In contrast, I have been happy with all of my leadership since I left. Working at ICF is fine as a first job, especially if you’re not already specialized in how you want to shape your career. But learn from my mistake - don’t stay and let it suck the life out of you. You will almost certainly be valued and have better growth opportunities elsewhere.

Pros

I met a few decent people at ICF. Work/life balance was great.

Cons

I showed up on a normal weekday to work when I was laid off with no warning. They told me there was a company wide tech problem instead of being honest that I had been laid off and that’s why I had been locked out of the system. There was no room for growth, at least my manager (who I was told was supposed provide project opportunities) didn’t provide any. I constantly had to beg my manager to be put on projects to put my skills to more use and then they would put me on really short-term projects no one wanted. What they said I would be doing in my role during the interview was not entirely correct. The team I was on had a high turnover rate and in less than 2 years I was working with a completely different team than I was hired by.

Pros

No pros except that you will work remote

Cons

Public Sector group is way too top heavy with management. The group has also had a hard time winning work. You can get let go at anytime. I’ve seen some horrible incidents happen with the management team here. The culture that is discussed in an interview is a disguise for a typical consulting firm. Stay far away from here! Also, the pay is extremely low.
