Pros

Great benefits. Competetive Salary. Really nice coworkers. Good equipment for home-based employees. In terms of what a lot of the big CROs offer, I think ICON is probably the best in terms of benefits. I haven't found anyone that can beat it.

Cons

Typically CRO cons - lots of travel, tough expectations, demanding sponsors. No cell phone or phone stipen for travelling CRAs makes life difficult. I think your experience here really depends on the study/sponsor teams. I work with two different teams and find one to be a pleasant experience and the other has me in tears of frustration. They are also transitioning from a mid-size to large-size CRO in a tough economy and I know at least the CRAs are feeling that squeeze. But it's not unreasonable compared to other CROs. The technology, especially CTMS, is really not efficient or modern. Big improvements to be made here. Difficult to get promoted. Doesn't really have a culture.

Pros

Benefits are good. People are for the most part great and the LCRAs have been great to work for.

Cons

Totally metric driven company! 96 days on site per year to receive an avg performance rating. Slip one or two days and you get a below avg rating. Studies are POORLY resourced. Not enough CRA, LCRAs and assistants on every study. CRAs are working 60-75 hours per week and missing metrics due to being over worked and then we suffer at our evalution. The metrics set everyone up for failure. Pfizer alliance only makes this situation worse because of their 483's with the FDA which ICON has a 483 as well. Put two companies like that together and it's all about metrics and unrealistic CAPA committiments to the FDA such as CRAs getting evaluated on a site's EDC entry timeline of 4 CALENDAR days! One vaccine study for Pfizer had 9 of 20 CRAs quit. Which I am too very soon. Rumor is ICON is getting bought out or merging. Employees on all levels are leaving ICON. Oh, no bonuses either and not one drink allowed to be expensed.
