Diverse employees Great office spaces Good benefits for everyone except American nationals Flexible working conditions

Cons

Promotion is non-existent. Without a vigilant and active staff member assisting the staff member with a career opportunity, there is no opportunity at all. Most of the staff are pigeoned holed. For US nationals, particularly people of color the work experience will be difficult.

International colleagues; working for the public good; high job security; international travel opportunities.

Cons

Uncompetitive salaries (especially for more junior staff); benefits getting eroded with every 5-year review; a lot of overtime is expected (40-60 hours per month) and none of it is compensated; management is skeptical of the value of economic research that would in fact benefit countries; slow progress on racial equality.

Pros

26 annual leave a year. Diverse working environment and pretty good health care.

Cons

Workload is very heavy and forget about work life balance especially during Annual Meetings and Spring Meetings. Don't be surprised to receive calls related to work at 9PM. IMF pays the economists well but not the assistants. Many assistants at the IMF are smart and well educated (I know a few with a masters from Ivy Leagues) but they are sometimes not being treat with respect.
