Do not work here

Pros

The IRS does have good benefits because it is the government and you are protected by the union.

Cons

I did not like working at the IRS. It is basically like a prison. No windows and the people are working there are like zombies. My manager wouldn't even let me listen to music while I sat there for 8 hours opening envelopes. Also extremly unorganized, such a shame.

Working in Tax

Business Outlook

Pros

It’s sustainable and secure. Most jobs are a specific area of tax process.

Cons

Revolving door of managers, due to promotion opportunity. Expertise is there but they do not take well to new modern attitudes or adapt to technology evolution very well.

Bad Culture

Pros

Good pay, benefits. Advancement opportunities available due to short staffing

Cons

Nothing is ever good enough. Confrontational with both external taxpayers and internal management. Being “the tax man” can effect social circles
