      Pros

      The IRS IT organization is very large and has a lot of opportunities for mid to senior level technical staff. Due to its size, the ability to move within the organization to different positions with widely varying skill sets provides a lot of opportunity to learn new skills & technologies.

      Cons

      Due to the size of the IRS IT organization, it is very slow to react & get things done. Technology upgrades I initiated & led in private industry which took 3-4 months can take years at the IRS. They are very slow to adapt "new" technologies. In private industry, i initiated and led a move to VoIP in 2003 and the IRS did not begin this movement until 2012... after I led the development of a prototype to prove the viability of VoIP within the IRS.

      Pros

      The pay is not bad for a person with no college degree and working ours are not bad either. Going the extra mile to help people was satisfying to me. Some awards for performance were good also.Worked over 8yrs for the IRS.

      Cons

      Too much micro management favoratism with female employees and a lot of stress. You felt like they would find ways to get you fired faster than to get hired. Management had no people skills and depended on years working there rather than training. The big bosses always said the system was broken but would not do anything to fix it because of fear to lose their jobs themselves. Benefits were good if you paid the right price.
