Pros

You get to work with little to no supervision and be creative in the way you utilize information and training

Cons

Dealing with people that are very hostile and most have misconceptions of who you are and what the company you work for really stand for.

Pros

Flexible schedule, work-life balance, interesting work, good benefits & casual environment. Those are all of the benefits almost all employees enjoy. Each department, work team & manager are different, of course. So I cannot speak for everyone but I really like my job. I have my good days & bad (like everyone else), but for the most part I do not mind going to work each day. I have been on the same team for 7 years & my co-workers are like family. They are the smartest, most creative, hard working group of people I have ever worked with. We come together to get the job done & provide the best possible service to the public. We have fun too when time permits : )

Cons

Our team gets a new manager every couple of years & we'd like a permanent one. It's difficult to review employees that you do not know well. Also, there is some drama on other teams, but I guess that's to be expected with so many different personalities coming together.

Pros

Good reputation for job security, prestigious or respected government agency, opportunities for career growth, opportunities to increase earning potential. Reputation for having great retirement plan and pension.

Cons

All the listed pros are a lie! They may have been true prior to 2008 when the housing market tanked, and caused the economic downfall. After 2009 the government enacted a pay freeze (cost of living adjustment) as well as a hiring freeze, and also massive annual budget cuts that inhibited the agency to operate efficiently. The budget cuts even resulted in tuition assistamce programs being eliminated, workforce reduction and job eliminations, and a government shutdown down where employees were furloughed for 2-3 weeks without pay.
