Pros

Liked the ability to work from home when needed (not available for all positions). Good benefits.

Cons

Shut downs were a constant worry. Micromanaging. Not providing tools needed for job.

Pros

I had so much to say about it, I wrote a book called IRS Whistleblower

Cons

I wrote a second book called What to Do When the IRS is After You and if you can follow that book, then you will just not fit in the IRS. It can be abusive to both employees and taxpayers.

Pros

A variety of different situations and experiences. A significant amount of self-management. Telework availability. Travel is often available if wanted and sometimes is required.

Cons

There is a negative stigma involved. Salaries and raises are set by the GS Scale so cannot be easily adjusted for performance. Bureaucracy and an overabundance of regulation can cause difficulty with routine tasks.
