Pros

Working at ISBAN Global Services you are able to achieve a satisfying work-life balance (hours of 9-5 are very much achieveable). There is a reasonable amount of support from Human Resources.

Cons

The on-boarding process for new joiners is terrible - waits of up to 10 days for a laptop are the norm. The roles with the ISBAN internal consulting team are badged as 'business consulting'...they are nothing of the kind. The majority of the work involves IT-led projects and are focussed upon management of training/change management/testing activity. Consequently staff who do not have this experience are at a disadvantage. There is a real blame culture here and a distinct lack of trust between the business units and ISBAN (due in part to the complete lack of visibility from management). Informal 'feedback' is often considered and acted upon without referral to staff. There is no clear view of alignment to business strategy, benefits of ISBAN intervention not available, lack of a clear and repeatable methodology.

Terrible Place to Work

Pros

There are still some great people working there - mainly those remaining from the purchasing of other banks.

Cons

The parent company, Santander, does everything possible to prevent work from getting done. Simple tasks take an exorbitant amount of effort. Software is developed using archaic "technology" called "BankSphere", a bizarre and terribly designed development framework built by the company that takes every step of the software development process and makes it more difficult than you can possibly imagine. Management has no clue how to manage a company, doesn't listen to employees, and constantly make decisions that hurt everyone. Following extremely complicated and ever-changing processes takes precedence over productivity, security, customer experience and the law. The company doesn't value you or your time; you will be expected to work 60+ hour weeks, expected to be available 24/7 and have to fight tooth and nail for your personal time, and they will ignore all of your knowledge and expertise while doing so. You will not advance unless you are a Spanish Male. Women are relegated to project management / secretary work and looking pretty.

Pros

Nice environment within consultants and senior consultants. At the end of the day, most of you are in the same situation Good work-life balance: your going to get same recognition working 8, 9 or 14 hours. So you might as well work 8.

Cons

Not a real consulting firm. No engagement from senior management Employees not valued for quality of output or stakeholder engagement: a good work in internal practices (trying to "improve" IGS) is more valued than actual client delivery. Salary: not competitive No career progression: few promotions thrown around the place, more for cosmetic purposes than anything else. If you actually manage to get promoted, expect a minimal pay increase.
