Historic Company with Outdated Practices

Pros

You will never be laid off for incompetence.

Cons

Lots of incompetent people. No understanding of American business culture. No effort to understand American business culture. No opportunities for advancement unless you are a Japanese national. Very limited advancement opportunities for women in the company. Not customer focused. Too much focus on outdated business practices. Very poor adoption of new technology. Strong opposition to any changes. Many layers of middle level management who do not think and do not add any value at all. There are clear and very apparent discriminatory practices against women and against non-Japanese staff.

Need super devotion for the job

Pros

As many other Japanese companies, they're willing to train you in hope that you stay with the company for your lifetime so experience or expertise are secondary, your dedication and sense of responsibility + attachment are first (Japanese fluency is a plus, of course).

Cons

The career path is unclear. Unless you're Japanese, it's super hard & takes longer to gain the trust to reach management level.

Pros

Lovely people with structured work culture. Everyone is respectful and expectations are set out clearly.

Cons

Can be rigid and not much room for diversification or promotion. The work can be very monotonous and the systems and processes are very out of date with far too much double handling and inefficiencies.
