Pros
I enjoy working as a staff scientist in a scientific department. The quality of facilities varies a bit department-wide, but my building and office has some of the nicest facilities on campus. All grad students, faculty, and staff have access to high-performance computing resources on campus free of charge, which is a pretty big deal compared to other places I've worked. On top of all that, Bloomington is a wonderful place to live, has a lot of great dining options close to campus, and a very nice famer's market.
Cons
Honestly, the biggest complaint I have is that the department mailing list is bombarded by frequent emails of a social nature that have nothing to do with science or the department's interests. It's very unprofessional and pretty annoying.
