small town -- can be boring pay is not as great there is a disconnect between academics and the staff -- even more so between the whole university community and the local folk. classes are hit or miss. this is a research university so profs are kept for the ability to research and not teach. you can be stuck with a professor who has no knowledge of teaching methods. at times professors can be intimidating both towards their students and the staff -- i have been on both sides;
