Pros

- Lots of freedom: there are no meetings to attend, I get to choose my own books for my courses, and there are pretty much no controls on how I teach. - Office space: Nice office space, and I share an office with only one other person. - Flexibility in scheduling: Department chair has always been quite accommodating about working with my preferred schedule

Cons

- The lack of meetings and lack of constraints is great in some ways, but it also means there is really no mentoring, and I feel rather unconnected with my department and with the IU community in general. - I don't envision any possibility for a full-time position here--I'm restricted to part time only.

Pros

Benefit package - they contribute 10% to 403(b) retirement account, good health insurance (though it went up significantly this year), decent vacation Good core lab resources - flow cytometry, microarray, sequencing, proteomics, vector, etc Good internal collaboration Good focus from administration on research + some internal funding opportunities

Cons

Long work hours (faculty expectation is 55 hrs/wk) Salary is not great. Equivalent salary for industry is +50% or more. Long timelines for tenure (7-9 years in IUSM)
