Pros

As a research assistant, I was able to work side by side with my employing professor and learn more than I would in a standard classroom environment.

Cons

Some of the tasks can seem menial and like "busy work," but at the undergraduate level it is hard to find anything that is any more in-depth.

Not fair.

Pros

Great benefits....as long as you are professional staff and work at the university level.

Cons

University level is out-of-touch with campus level benefits and the radical difference between professional staff and support staff. Raises are "across the board" rather than based on merit, which means that longevity means more pay, not ability and a good work ethic. It's a very top-heavy work environment with those who run things patting themselves on the back.
