Pros

Great place to work. Very supportive of junior faculty.

Cons

Very political Bad employees, even those that break laws, are allowed to continue with only a slap on the wrist. Instructors that are known to be ineffective, and have been caught plagiarizing and falsifying records are given good faculty awards. The awards and distinctions here mean nothing because of this, except to outsiders.

While we appreciate the 5 star rating, it is disappointing to hear that there were issues during your tenure with us. I am hoping based on your comments that something was done with regard to the dean. If not, please feel free to reach out to your former HR Business Partner and share your views.

Great benefits but huge inequalities - pay, ethnic etc.

Pros

benefits amazing and cannot be beat. work culture laid back that can also be a curse if you do not want to grow. good if you want to just do what you are told. risk taking not really part of the culture.

Cons

Meagre salary. Huge pay inequality - in salary of the hiring manager that is usually atleast 2-3 times an average employee salary. You feel poor for the work you do. High amazing pays for people at the top who are great in marketing themselves and not really do much work. Dizzying politics. Old boys club that mostly promotes the same thinking without any ethnic diversity for the most part. Self centered culture. I have also seen hiring managers exploit employees working on H1-B visa giving them much lower salary than less experienced peers in the SAME group just because they can do it. Do you think that that poor soul will jeopardize being deported just so he/she can make sure his pay is fair as others? It is disgusting. Is it not breaking human rights in a way?

Thank you for your feedback. IU is constantly looking at any potential pay inequities. We are also working on developing a new job framework to help staff employees better navigate and design their own career. We will be rolling that out in 2020.

Pros

It’s a large department, so there are lots of supportive systems.

Cons

It is a mess there. Completely dysfunctional and incompetent
