Great place to work in critical care, teaching hospital = positive learning culture, many advancement opportunities as well as lateral opportunities, Magnet certified, competitive pay scale in regional comparison, specialty services to fit your liking (adult critical care, pediatrics, surgical/OR, IR, outpatient, trauma, ER, oncology, heart and vascular, womens health, psych, etc)

Cons

High acuity hospital culture can lead to burnout faster than a slower pace environment

Pros

The staff is consistently great from environmental services to the doctors. I would unironically say it does feel like a family. If you want to take a leadership role in the department it is easy as they are always lacking for senior staff members.

Cons

Pay is low for the area Chronically understaffed even by normal hospital standards. Known to take tons of new nurses rather than retain or hire experienced ones, you will be considered senior quickly. The onboarding is atrocious from top to bottom. From websites that don't work to asking you to say your SSN and other PII in the middle of a lobby to hours of the usual boring slides. On site orientation was good at least, again due to friendly/good staff. Lots of pressure from upper management filtering down to the floor, has gotten significantly worse during covid but was always around.
