Pros

Stable job, decent benefits. Five hospitals to choose from. Once inside the system it is easy to move around. Fair pay and benefits. Okay retirement package, eliminated pension plan in 2014 now %5 match 401k. 21 funds to choose in stock market, low commissions - so someone in the benefit department is making sure we don't get ripped off by Fidelity. Not great, not bad. Tuition assistance $5000 a year. Some hospitals have on-site day-care, high price but good quality. Free parking - unlike DC hospitals. Lots of opportunities to work overtime and make extra money, because people keep leaving. During the 2008-2013 recession, I was grateful to have a job, watch several friends get laid off, but INOVA is stable and kept my job because I was a good employee, my hospital did lay off some people during the recession as well, but glad they cleaned house and got rid of some bad apples. I gave two stars and still recommend, because INOVA has a monopoly on the area, it's hard to leave.

Cons

Grumpy doctors, unhappy managers. Stressed out families and patients. Surrounded by tragedy and sorrow all the time. Employees come and go - the place is a revolving door. This makes it difficult to feel connected, appreciated, and have meaningful work. Dreaded going to work everyday. I just went to work so I could pay my bills. Doctors have a lot of influence. New ideas are not encouraged. Managers like you if you don't complain, work like a dog, keep your head down, clock in and out, do your job and go home. They don't want to hear what you have to say, and they don't want your ideas, just do what they day. All of our meetings were information, directives to follow. If you are a robot with no feelings this is a great place, but not a great place for patients - you have to be compassionate when working with patients, but management and co-workers are really not compassionate to each other and that trickles back down to the patients.
