Caps promotional raises and stunts merit raises

Pros

There are plenty of opportunities to make a name for yourself as there are many areas in need of process improvement and integration between newly acquired companies.

Cons

Growing within the company stunts your pay. They cap internal raises for promotions, even if you move into a role that makes double your salary. This leave huge pay gaps amongst coworkers that do the same work. They also stunt merit raises due to “tightening the purse strings” as they push to acquire more companies.

Pros

I love the atmosphere and environment. Remote work is a plus The company invests in your development They give you freedom to perform you duties. The people are reasonable.

Cons

There is some lack of communication that kills performance and employee morale. They have added some aspects of micromanagement; this has hurt the culture. They are reactionary and do not drill down to the correct causes of pain throughout the business. They need to speak to the frontline employees to fully understand the needs of their customers.

Communication and thoughtful leadership are two things we are working really hard on right now with leaders. I agree, we can do a much better job communicating across and down AND intaking communication from our front line. I’d love to discuss the ‘micro-management’, I’m wondering if it’s a symptom of trying to be more rigorous with information sharing and gathering – but would love your thoughts! Give me a call, I think it would be valuable to dig in to share some of our upcoming ‘fixes’ and see if you think they would resonate with you and your team(s). Thanks for the feedback! - Karyn DeFalco, Chief People Officer
