Pros

Health insurance isn’t too expensive.

Cons

Micromanaged every step of the way. Management treats technicians like cattle. IDT used to be a good place to work until Danaher took over. They only care about $$$ and no longer seem to care about scientific integrity. Turnover rate is insane as they treat employees worse and the pay doesn’t keep up. Really unfortunate to see how things have turned out.

Major corp & micromanagement

Pros

Fully remote positions available from day 1

Cons

I mistook IDT for one of the larger local employers without realizing the company was acquired as part of a massive global corp (Danaher). This greatly affected the team dynamic I was hoping to find in an employer as I only really knew my small team (remotely) and didn’t have any face to face interaction with other teams. It felt like a massive org where managers said things like “I am all about the DBS” (aka the Danaher Business System which is basically just corporate speak for continuous improvement). We were micromanaged from the start and I felt like the company didn’t mind the fact that employees didn’t interact with one another. If you want a job where you are tracking metrics daily and enjoy your manager watching your work as it’s being completed this job is for you.

Pros

Direct supervisors are great, and coworkers make the place a fun and engaging workplace. Lots of opportunities to learn new skills when starting out in biotech.

Cons

There is a lack of commitment from upper management and projects are canceled very frequently. The pay is significantly below industry norms despite leadership pretending that compensation is competitive. There is also inconsistent standards for different group when determining if a project is mature enough to move forward making it hard to know what needs to be done at specific stages.
