Great benefits and vacation days. Health insurance and retirement plans are unrivaled. Good work/life balance if you are not a low grade consultant.

Cons

Very political, extremely bureaucratic and, depending on where you work your best chance at career advancement may be leaving the institution.

Pros

Interesting work Good exposure to Latin America and Caribbean Good work-life balance

Cons

No clear career path Difficult place to advance professionally, as people never leave and the organization is extremely bureaucratic Often disorganized, lack of professional management IDB increasingly depends on consultants who do not have proper benefits, but often perform the same work as staff on consulting contracts for years.
