Pros

- International exposure (Latin America) and very diverse nationalities to work with - Good work life balance - In general nice working environment - You will improve your languages skills (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French) - Competitive salaries (but no opportunity to grow or have benefits if you are a consultant)

Cons

- If you are a consultant: very hard to land on a staff position, so there is no benefit. - Very hard hard to move to another position without networking - It is more about who you know than who you are - Instability due to the short duration of contracts

Pros

Salary + benefits + carrier (if you are a Colombian)

Cons

If you are not a Colombian you're in trouble. Management style is the political "either you are with me - or against", which limits innovation, creativity and initiative. The result is a development bank loosing market share to the CAF, the World Bank and CABEI. Unfortunately the IDB is no longer THE reference for Latin American issues.

Pros

Excellent people with high levels of education and background to bring new views into your work. Very friendly and open culture. Almost anyone you email and ask will meet you for coffee and talk about their work. Lots of opportunities for networking. Tons of interesting projects, although it depends on your area. Looks great to other employers on the resume. Yo will love the cafeteria, the gym, cultural activities, people, Te IDB has their own credit union.

Cons

It is a Spanish speaking environment. If you don't speak Spanish you will have a hard time. Just be aware that very few Consultant move on to be staff. This is not really a downside if you're not counting on it, but a lot of Consultant spend a ton of time there waiting for a staff position that will never develop. This always seemed pretty clear to me, but some people hate it. For those who do make staff it's a great job, but there's relatively little room for advancement within the organization.
