Politics and management style impact your career, income, and job satisfaction. Two employees with nearly identical skill sets, working for two different managers in two different geographies will have two completely different opportunities. In one region, management promotes, recognizes, and rewards good performance. In the second region, the management makes decisions which limit the employees success, but blames the employee for poor performance. The management in region two is less likely to recognize good performance.
Having a manager that is willing to share the credit for good performance and recognizes good performance to mid-level and top level managers, is the difference between an employee that will be promoted, and an employee that will become stagnant and unproductive.
