Pros

Experience varies by country program, but the country program where I worked ran like a well-oiled machine. There was a lot of autonomy and room for innovation within your own job, but not much beyond that. The work was rewarding as the progress made was very tangible. Great non-salary benefits.

Cons

Salary was low compared to other NGOs in the country Not much innovation at the project design level Minimal room for promotion for international staff Minimal staff development for international staff Their development projects lack a sustainable vision as they are primarily accustomed to humanitarian aid.

Pros

The International Rescue Committee is one of the best in the field for the work they do. Colleagues are generally very committed to the cause.

Cons

The IRC evolves with each new CEO, and not always for the better. The organization seems to grow by leaps and bounds, and there seems to be a movement toward corporatization. Still doing great work, but it would be nicer if management seemed to care as much about staff as it does about beneficiaries.
