HQ does not live up to values espoused publicly

Pros

Good benefits, flexible hybrid schedule for staff who is not client facing.

Cons

Significantly underpaid at the local level; staff who have lived experience are often the least paid and most exploited; values espoused regularly by HQ for clients are not experienced by staff; leadership unwilling to deal with pending federal administration changes and plan accordingly until it's too late, and handled mass lay offs with secrecy and isolation; HQ propped up bad local leadership and refused to listen to staff experience and input, even when local leadership *literally* fell asleep on the job; certain operations/development staff deeply overworked

Pros

- Mission driven - Great exposure - Huge organization, so there's a lot to learn from on the job - One of the top INGOs to work for if you're into policy/advocacy -Pays slighter better than other NGOs/INGOs (at least in the US)

Cons

- Poor internal systems/controls (HR, L&D) - Organizational vision can be shifty in terms of what kind of NGO the IRC would like to look like - Despite it being a huge organization, there's not that much room for mobility internally, opportunities for L&D besides from on-the-job learning

Pros

The salary and benefits package was competitive compared to other NGOs and they offered us training opportunities.

Cons

It doesn’t not matter how many years and how much effort you put into working here especially if you are not a favorite of senior management ,they will lay you off the minute they don’t need you especially during the current government cutting most NGO programs. Senior management used to yell at us in meetings and other senior managers would keep quiet and pretend nothing happened and it’s very political. It’s who you know not what you know.
