Pros

The people here were the reason I came to work every day. The work is interesting and perhaps unbeknownst to management, you have a lot of freedom to come and go during long incubations.

Cons

I worked here for 4.5 months and witnessed four layoffs in that time, the last of which I fell victim to. Management hires lot of people when there's a lot of work, wastes thousands of dollars training them, and then lays everyone off when work starts to slow down again. They even called me back to see if I wanted my old job back, but for a $6/hr pay cut. Insulting. Towards the end, people started to get competitive and catty just to get ahead so they would keep their job.

Pros

One hundred plus year old company with a large variety of business offerings. European operations have the most structure and experienced employees.

Cons

Intertek is the rare company that has little regard for either its employees or customers yet manages to stay in business by purchasing other companies. If you are considering a business development position keep in mind that just about everyone at Intertek is in business development and you will not get any direction or help. There is a self preservation culture at Intertek and no one is a team player since they mostly came from various companies purchased by Intertek and protect their own turf. Management is mostly inexperienced and has no interest in helping employees further their careers or improving the quality of customer service. Their labs in the U.S. have outdated equipment and facilities are run down.

Pros

Some nice people; very nice PTO (20 days, plus holidays); opportunity for overtime pay if an hourly employee.

Cons

Growing expectations of almost all employees without extending any sort of incentive to out perform previous results. Morale was abysmal, of the sort that made it painful to get up in the morning to go to work. Good ol' boy mentality and hierarchy was discouraging to deal with on a day to day basis.
