The good and the bad

Pros

Work/life balance & benefits are great. Generally speaking, the people are nice and high-caliber in their performance. Intuit has a very strong culture, you either fit in or you're pushed out. Most folks

Cons

- Difficult to get promoted - very political and based on who you know. - Products aren't very "sexy" - financial software. - The company is trying to be innovative, but it's still not very clear to front line workers how the company will get there or what strategies are currently in place. - Intuit tends to re-org every 6 months or so. This can very difficult and disruptive, as you tend change managers, groups, and tasks. You find yourself almost working from scratch and proving yourself again.. The recent reorg in Jul '08 also had a 10% reduction in the work-force.

Pros

Work-Life Balance. Industry-leader in all three product lines (personal finance, small business finance, and tax). Very strong company that will survive the downturn. Many opportunities for mobility. Good location in the South Bay.

Cons

- Older workforce that is more in the baby/buying house stage in their life, not as many young people. - I would prefer to live/work in San Francisco. Intuit has an office in SF, but only about 100 employees work there.

Pros

Support for work-life balance and a level-headed company culture

Cons

Politics, politics, politics - I was recruited into a Staff Engineering position, and within the engineering organization, things were very good. However, there is a completely irrelevant layer of "Architects" who are too out of touch to lead, and too egotistical to get the hell out of the way. It is EXTREMELY frustrating to be an engineer there - your good ideas are co-opted by architects, who then proceed to load it up with "process" and "architectese" - and completely ruin its chances of ever being implemented effectively.
