Pros

Ivanti is a great place to work, and deciding to leave was an incredibly difficult decision. - Product Support Engineers (PSEs) are given a lot of autonomy in how and when they do their work, which is nice - Products use a wide variety of technology, from classic on prem stuff to newer cloud technologies in AWS/Azure - Working with Engineering and Product Management is pretty easy, and everyone is open to discussion - Support usually has a seat at the table for important product discussions - Lots of hard working, smart people in support - Technical Support Engineers (TSEs) have a well defined career path to Senior TSE and eventually PSE - Great benefits and a decent amount of time off - If you sacrifice your work life balance, as I often did, you can progress very far very quickly

Cons

Despite the pros, the main downside, and the main reason I ultimately left, is that there isn't really a good technical career path in support beyond PSE. You've basically got the following structure: Senior PSE (you're Senior when initially promoted to PSE) Staff PSE (obtainable within 2 years if you work for it) Principal PSE (nearly impossible to get, unless you're the Architect or you stick around so long they have to promote you to keep providing raises) Architect (there's only one position for this) The problem with that structure is that there isn't an appreciable difference in job responsibility or scope between and Senior and Staff PSE. You get a marginal pay bump and then you can basically coast in your job until you feel like doing something else. This is great for those who want to coast, but is a letdown for those that want to keep pushing themselves. Aside from that, you've got the following other things to consider: - TSE teams run lean, which causes a lot of stress for the entire support floor when one or more people leave, are sick, etc - The PSE team is asked to do a lot of random things because they're "the experts" and other people don't want to do them - The layoffs last year left some products with little to no remaining people that can support them, while Sales is busy selling bigger and bigger sales, resulting in very unhappy customers and unhappy support - Reduction in engineering resources for the company's flagship product has caused a lot of headaches - No parental leave. It's a bit nitpciky, I know, but in this current day and age, and with so many local competitors offering unlimited PTO or parental leave, it seems a bit... old, to not offer this officially, and it's a letdown for younger workers who would like to start a family. Some managers will work with you, but YMMV.

Pros

The team uses modern tools - latest .NET run-times, latest C# 7 features, VS 2017, C++ 14 and VSTS in the cloud. Code quality is a paramount concern - 100% peer review, all code analysis rules are on, Resharper/Clang format is run on all code. Tech debit is attacked - the team often bounces off of 0 total defects in the backlog with no deferred defects. Predicable delivery cadence - enables work life balance. Innovation - Opportunity to peruse patents and bring innovated ideas to market. Engineering driven culture. Great snacks and beverages availble Success is celebrated.

Cons

Some areas of automated testing need improvement. - Look at leveraging other automated testing tools. More automated testing is needed. Small teams have lots of work - there lots of features to tackle in the backlog. It would be nice to have more capacity.

Pros

Ivanti may be headquartered in South Jordan, Utah, but I've met Ivanti employees, partners, and customers from all over the world. They are uniformly some of the sharpest, most passionate, hardest-working, and funniest people I've met in almost 40 years in the information technology industry. If you like working with great people, in person or remotely, you won't find better than at Ivanti.

Cons

The work is demanding, and deadline pressure can be significant, but no more than that at any other company trying to change a significant part of a market (or the world). Recent changes in leadership have yet to play out fully, which likely causes some uncertainty across the organization.
