Pros

Great location, wonderful facilities. Industry & market share leader. Historically significant. When times are good this is a great company to be part of, however, with the current state of the industry (closed borders, food safety concerns, declining consumer purchase of high-quality cuts) times and the company have become extremely lean. Pork opps have been historically healthy and profitable. I was at Swift & Company prior the JBS acquisition.

Cons

Industry in decline and Swift's plants need an infusion of funds. Foreign ownership has turned a once strong branded marketer into an operational-driven plow horse. New senior management is adapting to American consumer and has had spotty success.

Taking a step backward

Pros

A select few co-workers are great to work with and the attire is pretty laid back. They also provide company paid life insurance and STD/LTD for non-union employees.

Cons

There is little to no training after being hired, the pay is much lower compared to the market, several management employees don't even speak English, work-life balance is non-existant due to 10+ hour shifts and required Saturdays, 360 reviews, the programs the company uses are ancient, the insurance rates are sky high, and corporate is trying to force every plant in the country to operate by their policies/procedures/pay grades even though many locations have a much higher cost of living. Also - if you need to travel for training or relocating, you have to pay all costs up front and be reimbursed 2-3 months later! Not everything is about money and numbers!

Poor Management; misleading job descriptions for professionals

Pros

career options are unlimited. i.e you can even become the President,GM, head of HR, head of operations etc even without a university degree. All you need to do is sweet talk and learn the technique of CYA and putting the blame on others.

Cons

>60 hrs of work a week for management, discriminatory management, no work ethics, no moral foundation for the company.
