Pros

As a global company with a big sales engine, Jacobs succeeds in winning a lot of government contracts that have the potential to keep their staff fairly busy on some cool projects. I liked the attention to diversity and equality.

Cons

Jacobs fails to deliver on employee experience. HR and IT are internally "outsourced" to low-cost centers around the world. It's a terrible model for actually resolving any issues. On my last day, I received notice of several tickets in these systems that were never addressed and this is the exact reason I left. IT is a particular issue in impeding productivity. They push out global updates that render your computer useless and then you end up working nights and weekends to try to make up for the time lost on the projects. HR is entirely under-resourced and is the first part of the business that cuts people when the company spends too much or doesn't make enough money elsewhere. Serious issues went unresolved in HR and slipped through the cracks because of under-resourcing. They tout mental health in emails across the company but their business practices in place were the main stressors in my life. Project Managers overpromised to their clients and gave project contributors aggressively low budgets to accomplish the work. The implication was often that work needed to be done outside of normal working hours. There were constant messages coming from upper management about how people should not be charging to overhead even when project budgets weren't enough to accomplish the work requested. It was often implied that the majority of project contributors are 100% billable and if you don't have project work you have to take PTO or a leave of absence. In the end, it was a dehumanizing experience because I had exhausted all PTO and didn't get the downtime I needed.

Pros

The pay is great. The corporate culture is very liberal. Includes several organized groups for minority employees of various stripes. The company online administrative tools function well, unlike most intranets.

Cons

Too many cool kids. Voluntary remote work makes it difficult to network at the office.
