Pros

Exposure to different aspects of the industries. Interesting people. The company tries hard to retain each and every one of their employees

Cons

Not clear how employees get evaluated... a bit of a random way to promote and remunerate people. Not easy to move offices.

Pros

The pay scales are OK compared to the industry. Not the best or the worst. Most non-managers are good folks.

Cons

The single bigest flaw in Jacobs is that senior managers make commitments which are unrealistic, then simply funnel all that pressure downwards. A serious concern is the lack of credibility of comunication to the workforce. Jacobs has consistently lied or been deliberatley obscure to its staff about pay and redundancies, and has had a "divide and conquer" approach to consultation on working hours changes. Good managers can get up the ladder in exceptional circumstances, but most senior managers tend to to be the sort of people who are adept at covering their own hides when the badly managed projects inevitably run over and/or burn people out.

Pros

Opportunities to work on a wide range of different projects and expand your knowledge. The likelihood of working with decent people in the rank and file is high.

Cons

No corporate committment (or desire) to make accomodations to minimize the impact of the well-established cyclical nature of the business on employees. It is unreasonable to have expectations of coverage for long down cycles, but shorter duration ones are treated the same. Hit the road to another office (through your own networking) and avoid OH at all costs when things looks slow. Near zero support for professional development (seminars, classes, etc) - unless you want to pay for it.
