Pros

Good mix of varying projects. Great benefits and tuition reimbursement. Some smart people but a lot of people who have spent their careers there and aren't as motivated.

Cons

Too conservative. Very difficult for junior staff to get leadership opportunities. Some projects are very interesting however most are pretty boring.

Pros

Great work/life balance. Working here feels like you are part of a community of people. You will be exposed to lots of interesting projects and transferring to other divisions is welcomed. Also being affiliated with Johns Hopkins, opportunities for advanced degrees is available. Overall great place to work, highly recommended.

Cons

You have many "lifers" who have risen through the ranks, so it can be kind of an "invisible network" in place when it comes to workplace politics. I'm sure this comes into play when raises and promotions are concerned. I would not expect politics at JHUAPL to be different from anywhere else, but it is present.

Pros

Great place to work, but the opportunities for advancement is difficult to achieve. There's opportunities for employees without advanced degrees or for those who have not reached mid-level management. I don't see a lot of upward mobility once for professional level management. As a non-profit, raises are not as competitive as for profit organizations. 2-4% is the normal range.

Cons

Very flexible place to work with lot of friendly people. No cubicles, but do share offices. Can work from home and the initial salary is competitive. Work is not challenging enough and very cookie cutter.
