Pros

Although slowly, Johnson Controls has started to put in place better benefits such as paid parental leave. They offer comparable health care benefits to other companies their size, and there was a decent work/life balance during my time at the company. The organization is transitioning to future technology with a focus on the digital front, and the organization is willing to invest in exciting projects and necessary resources so long as the business case makes sense (I've been at companies where project and resource costs outweighed business cases). Johnson Controls is also doing a better job at communication by moving towards centralized project and resource processes that make clear what is required to get a project moving.

Cons

The 401k match at Johnson Controls is given and taken away regularly. I lost 3% of my annual benefits this way 2 days after starting with the organization. Given the record profits and very large stock buy backs at the company, cutting employee benefits seemed unnecessary (occurred before the COVID pandemic). A VP/GM at Johnson Controls (Christian Eichmann) actively encourages employees to ignore company safety policies which was a major red flag for me and a reason I left the company. He turned the office I worked at into a political atmosphere and made it an uncomfortable place to work. Johnson Controls seems to be at odds with this approach. So, I'll say the organization as a whole is a good place to work, but anything under Eichmann's branch is not.

Pros

Very flexible place to be. Generally as long as you're getting around 40 hours in, it doesn't matter when you come in or leave (within reason). It's a very low stress environment. People here are very nice. People often hang out outside of work. The work itself is enjoyable. Working in new product development grants a ton of freedom to design things in a way you want to design things.

Cons

JCI does not pay nearly as much as companies in the surrounding area. This place has sort of turned into a revolving door with people leaving for 20% to 30% pay increases at other nearby companies. The new director of engineering has made changes to the way things are done. In some areas it has helped, but the overall approval of him is on the lower end.
